Better Dock is currently a free public beta. This policy explains, plainly, what data the app collects and what it doesn’t. If anything here changes, this page will be updated.
What we collect
If you send in-app feedback (“Send Feedback…”): the category you pick, your message text, an optional email address (only if you choose to type one in so we can reply), your app version, your macOS version, and a random device ID. That device ID is a UUID generated on your Mac and stored in the app’s own preferences — it is not your hardware serial number, not tied to your Apple ID, and not usable to identify you unless you also gave us your email.
If you create an account (“Account…” menu, optional): just an email address, and if you set a password, a password hash. This is handled entirely by our backend provider, Supabase — not by Better Dock’s own servers. Signing in is completely optional. The app works fully without ever creating an account; nothing is locked behind sign-in.
Nothing else is collected. No location, no contacts, no browsing history, no crash reports.
Why we collect it
Feedback data lets us see bugs and read what you’re asking for. The optional email on a feedback submission lets us reply to you directly. An optional account exists for features that may need it later — right now it isn’t required for anything.
Where it’s stored
Feedback and account data live in Supabase (a hosted Postgres database), our only backend provider. The feedback table is locked down with row-level security: the app can only insert new feedback, it can never read, edit, or delete existing rows, and neither can the public. Only the developer’s private operator key can access stored feedback.
What we don’t do
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No ad trackers of any kind
- No selling or sharing data with any third party
- No third-party SDKs beyond Supabase, which is used solely for the two features above
Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions: Better Dock asks for these because they’re required to see which windows are open, where they are, and to render live thumbnail previews in the dock. This all happens locally, on your Mac. Window contents, screenshots, and thumbnails are never transmitted anywhere — this data never leaves your device.
How to request deletion
Feedback you submitted: email us at the address below with either the email you included on the submission or, if you didn’t include one, the approximate date/time and message content so we can locate it. We’ll delete the row.
Account data: email us and we’ll delete your account and associated email/password data from Supabase Auth.
